Everyone is Mad

Everyone is mad. Everyone is mad! Be it the residents of Earth, the celestial abodes, the hellish abodes and even the residents of God's divine abodes - everyone is mad. We can divide all these crazy people into two categories. There are those who are crazy for happiness, and there are those who are crazy in happiness. Who are those crazy for happiness? All of us. Why have you all come here? For happiness. And those who have attained that happiness are naturally crazy. In other words, one category is those under maya and the other is those beyond maya. Pay attention to each and every word. One are bound by maya (mayadheen) and one are beyond maya (mayateet). All souls in the 8.4 million species of life are under maya, except those souls who have realised God and therefore transcended maya. Souls are only of these two types - those bound by maya and those beyond maya. The third category are mayadheesh or the lord of maya:

mayam tu prakritim . . .  (Shvetashvatara Upanishad 4.10)

The Vedas declare that maya is God's energy and God is its ruler. God is the ruler of the souls as well as the ruler of maya. There is no other entity. There is maya, there are the individual souls and the master of these two energies is the Supreme Lord, Shri Krishna.

Thus, all souls under maya want happiness alone. Pay attention. Why is that person laughing? Because it makes him happy. Why is that person crying? It makes him happy. Why is he sitting? It makes him happy. Why did he get up? It makes him happy. Differing actions and yet only one goal - happiness. Sleep gives happiness. But for how long? 6, 8, 12 or even 24 hours. But eventually you will say, "Now I must get up." At times sleep makes you happy; at times waking up. At times speaking; at times staying quiet. At times laughing; at times crying. In both opposing actions, you are searching for happiness alone.
